New year, new playlist. To kick things off for 2018, I wanted to go with something that felt a little moody. It’s been cold and grey all week here in Chicago, and even though I go back and forth on the validity of season affective disorder being a real thing, the weather’s got me feeling some type of way.
Enter Francis and the Lights. If you like slow jamz that sound like Phil Collins b-sides, this is most definitely going to be your wave. This one man band dropped his sophomore effort by surprise the other week, and while it gives me more of a mixtape feel than that of an album, it definitely delivers. “Breaking Up” is somber ballad about a dropped call. “I called you up // To see what’s good,” is a perfect line because it’s so literal and plain, but wildly honest. Also, the piano arrangement should sound familiar as it was also used on “One More Cry” by Jeremih and Chance.
Just for Us is currently out now and available everywhere. Check out “Breaking Up” below and follow this playlist to see what we’re vibing to all year long.
